Exhibit Details
Born in 1975, Sonia Hamza lives and works in Paris, France. A graduate of ENSAA Duperré, she has developed a unique artistic language combining photography and textiles. Strongly in fluenced by the impact of globalisation on cities, Sonia Hamza's work seeks to bring out the details or traces that make spaces unique in the global standardisation of the urban environment. Her creations, which are always based on photographic images, can take a variety of forms: artists' books, photographic triptychs, embroidered portraits.
Sonia Hamza incorporates textiles into her work in a variety of ways. Her collaborations with Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom of the VU agency, tapestry-maker Claude-Marie Thibert Boutou and her participation in several artist residencies in France and abroad have enabled her to exhibit her work all over the world.
She has won several awards, including the Public Award at En Aparté, the Discovery Award 2022 at the Festival Encontros Da Imagem (Portugal), The Fix Photo Award 2017 (England) and The Best Portfolio review Award 2015 (Germany) and has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the February/March 2023 issue of OpenEye. Sonia Hamza's photographic universe is imbued with her atypical past, creating an original and evocative body of work that tends to blur the boundaries between artistic disciplines.
